How Advertising & Marketing Has Evolved

Advertising & Marketing refer to various activities that a business undertakes in order to promote either the sale or purchasing of a particular product, service, or even good. In recent years, The New York Times referred to it as "the most elemental component of business". Advertising & Marketing are also known as Marketing, which is an art and science of promoting products by communicating with prospective customers. Advertising & Marketing have evolved since its beginnings in the early twentieth century, becoming one of the most effective marketing tools for businesses in the twentieth century. Advertisers need various channels of communication to effectively reach their audience.

There are many types of advertising agencies out there to help design and create successful advertisements. Advertising agencies can be comprised of both professionals and people who are not involved in the day-to-day operations of running an advertising agency. Advertising agencies can include creative people such as artists or designers, advertising agencies account executives, media specialists, and marketing managers, or a combination of these individuals. An advertising agency can provide the leadership and guidance needed to effectively market a client's products. These leadership roles can be provided by hiring a number of experts to help in the process, or through positions within the company itself. Advertising agencies can work with brand or product management teams and design and develop ads according to specific client requirements.

Prior to the twentieth century, Advertising & Marketing were primarily utilized by large corporations, media companies, and wireline telephone companies. The advertising agency concept came about during World War I when newspaper advertising agencies were created to help the war effort by providing reports and graphics. Advertising & Marketing research began to focus on the benefits of new mass media, such as the radio, for the creation of new advertising strategies.

The early New York City Advertising & Marketing agencies began their research by studying existing magazines and newspapers that served the demographic areas of New York City's clientele. After gathering information from these sources, the research was formulated into the very first magazines, such as Business Week and Esquire. As time progressed, more magazines were launched, each focused on a different area of the New York City clientele. These magazines helped to define the interests and purchasing habits of the clientele, as well as helping to formulate the styles and types of ads that would be used.

As advertising agencies began to branch out and hire additional staff to assist them in the development of ads, the focus turned more towards local publications that were focused on a particular geographic area. When agencies first began to create these localized publications, they often created glossy magazines geared towards a male audience. The first advertising agencies also appeared to have an ethnic focus and included Jewish men, as well as ethnic groups such as Germans and Italians.

The New York City clientele initially focused on selling the product rather than the service. By the late twentieth century, the focus had changed to selling the service and it began to sell products that customers wanted. Advertising agencies began to develop products that could be tailored to the demographics of each area that they served. This new focus resulted in more publications that were aimed at those that could be targeted for buying a particular product.

Advertising agencies also began to target their ads according to both gender and age. New trends began to emerge in the 1950s, which had women spending more money on clothing. Ads also became more culturally diverse, according to a new trend that had African-American and Asian clients. These changes in demographics helped to increase the number of advertisers that were willing to participate in this growing market.

Advertising & Marketing have become an integral part of many businesses throughout the world and a history lesson for all of us. While the initial reasons for the creation of Advertising & Marketing are easily traced back to our earliest ancestors, many of today's developments really take us back to the stone age. However, with technological advancements that have been developed through the centuries, advertising agencies have been able to successfully adapt to changing consumer demands and find creative new ways to serve their clients.
