Do I Need To Be Concerned About Huawei Security Issues?
Recently there have been serious allegations made against two international companies by the United States Department of Defense. These companies are Huawei and Hewlett Packard. Both of these companies have denied the allegations, stating that they have no relationship with the Chinese government. However, former employees have alleged that both companies have been involved in spying on behalf of the Chinese government. This raises serious questions about why such a large company would be involved in such activities.
Why is this important to know? Well, if the company in question is involved in the activities described, it is obvious that it has to be concerned about network security. The question is: Does the company have measures in place to mitigate any potential security risks? If so, what are those measures?
In order to understand what an appropriate network security solution should be, you first need to understand why it is that you would ever want to place your entire network at risk. There are many reasons to take this course of action, but perhaps one of the most important is the prevention of hacking. No matter how much money you spend on software and hardware, it can never be completely safe. Hackers will always find a way into some of your systems, no matter how hard you try. By making sure that your networks are protected at all times, you can dramatically reduce the amount of risk to your company.
Now that we have established what a company could be up to when it comes to network security, it is time to turn to what the company can do to improve its practices. By far, one of the most important things to consider is that of ergonomics. Most companies have very structured work spaces, and in many cases, office design has been more about making certain that the workers can move freely around the workplace without their clothes falling off than making certain that everything is perfectly aligned. By taking ergonomic issues into consideration, it may be possible to improve employee movement while remaining comfortable.
Another thing to think about is the use of data duplication. This process removes duplicate data from the company's network so that all data is consistent and easy to analyze. Duplication within a network is an extremely serious issue, because while it is true that computers process data in a similar manner, the differences between one system and another can be huge.
One problem that many companies face is trying to figure out who is responsible for a certain piece of data. For example, if a hacker discovers that a particular employee accessed a system that only has documents, it is entirely possible that he or she hacked into the network and took control of everything. This makes it extremely difficult to get the job done and causes frustration among employees. By removing duplicate records, you make it much easier to analyze the network at hand. While duplicate records cannot be removed altogether, it is definitely possible to eliminate some of them by performing checks that are appropriate to the size of the network.
Another issue with network security is the use of WEP (wireless Ethernet). This is largely unnecessary for a company because it is quickly learned that a wireless network is much more secure than one that uses WAN or LAN. Companies that choose to go with WEP must also learn the complexities of the process. Often, the wireless networks that are set up for employee use are vulnerable to attack because of weak spots in the encryption. Even if the employee uses a strong password and setting up a WEP key, if the wireless network is compromised, the data can be stolen.
If you want a truly secure network for your company, it is very important to find a reliable provider. In this case, finding a company that has experience in the area and is willing to continuously learn new methods is preferable. You should also look for a provider that can provide support for both internal and external networks. In addition, a company that has been in business for a while and has a good reputation for providing excellent support are always the best choice. If you find these things, then you will have no concerns when it comes to protecting your network from outside threats.
